A Commentary on Catholic Catechism Articles
Paragraph 75
On Christ's Interaction With Us
"Christ the Lord, in whom the entire Revelation of the most high God is summed up, commanded the apostles to preach the Gospel, which had been promised beforehand by the prophets, and which he fulfilled in his own person and promulgated with his own lips. In preaching the Gospel, they were to communicate the gifts of God to all men. This Gospel was to be the source of all saving truth and moral discipline."
"and which he fulfilled in his own person and promulgated with his own lips." There's one phrase that this passage really makes me think of--If you want something done right, you gotta' do it yourself.
God must have been thinking this throughout the whole Old Testament. He tried and tried to get people to follow His commandments, and it all boiled down to one thing: Jesus had to come down Himself and set everything right. Christ Himself had to be the perfect sacrifice. Christ Himself had to take our miserable existence and sanctify it.
Now I mention this because of a point that I made in the article on paragraph #74. God presented us the Faith in its entirety when He sent His Son down. But I had said that God still gives us private revelations. Not so much in the worldwide discovery of new doctrine, but in personal aids in understanding what is already here.
In other words, God interacts with us. He knows that we don't have everything in our lives to live by His rules and to understand His will. So we form a relationship with God... one that will help us out, here and there, when we wonder off the path. One that will give us the strength we need to make it through to the next day... sometimes to the next minute.
God is all-knowing, and he knows WE can't do it alone. Jesus came down to man's level 2000 years ago, and He hasn't left us. He wanted it done right, so He knew he couldn't just give us a little information and then go about His business. He knew he had to stick around. It ain't over yet... it won't be over until the end of the world. So why should we ever feel like we're alone?
He stays present in the world in several ways. Of course, one of those ways in through the Eucharist. Another way is through the Church's teaching authority. But one of the very special ways is by living inside of us. He inspires us to be charitable. He inspires us to be noble. He inspires us to keep going, even when the going gets tough.
God is among us, every day, every minute, every second. God is in constant interaction with us. God is running the show.
It doesn't always seem like it. Sometimes we get so discouraged and everything seems so hopeless that we begin to wonder if there really is a God at all. But we have to remember the words of Jesus when he said "And behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world."
God knows we're not good enough to get it right, so don't let despair take you down. Even if everything seems to be spiraling out of control. No, we can't always control our own situation. We can't just stop worrying about the bills, the car problems, or the wellbeing of our loved ones. But we CAN trust in God. We can talk to Him about these things, and end our prayers by saying, "I'll do what I can do, and trust you'll make the right thing happen."
Come to think of it, that's pretty much ALL we can do.
